General Information

Admissions

Parents who are considering St Mary's and St Peter's for their child are welcome to visit. Please contact the school office to arrange a visit. If you are planning on applying for admission to our Reception Class, because of the large numbers we organise special opportunities to visit in groups. You will find full details of our latest admissions criteria in the back of the prospectus.

Special Educational Needs

We recognise that children do not progress at the same rate. All our teaching is differentiated to take account of this. We place a great deal of emphasis on careful assessment of individual needs and children are planned for accordingly. Our Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) works closely with parents and appropriate agencies to ensure that children's needs are fully addressed.

Charging Policy

Educational visits, swimming provision and some technology activities are only sustainable if we ask parents to make voluntary contributions to help meet the costs. However, no child is excluded from an activity if parents are not able to contribute.

Parents on income support may qualify for grants for school meals and clothing. The appropriate forms can be obtained from the school office, where every query will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Race Equality

Children from all cultures and traditions are welcome at St. Mary's and St. Peter's. The school has a policy promoting Race Equality which all are asked to subscribe to alongside our Equal Opportunities. Copies of both can be viewed in the school office.

Equal Opportunities

All who are part of our school community are asked to subscribe to the following statement: 'At St Mary's and St. Peter's we believe in equal opportunities for all. Everyone working in our school environment will be treated fairly and with respect, so that everybody's talents can be used to the full'.

Gifted and Talented Children

Children who are of high ability are also well catered for at the school. We have a co-ordinator who is responsible for the development of programmes for the gifted and talented. We aim to provide a challenging and enriching curriculum that allows for personal and social development as well as the development of academic skills.

Attendance and Punctuality

Good attendance and punctuality are important life skills and we expect parents to ensure that their children are on time and do not have time off school unless absolutely necessary. We do not encourage holidays during term time.

Uniform

We pride ourselves on our children looking smart. We expect all children to be in full school uniform at all times. Full details of the school uniform can be obtained from the school office and will be given to parents prior to admission.
