Girls Crash out to Stanley

The girls football team lost their quarter-final match against Stanley 2-0.

Tis the season to play Ping Pong

With the arrival of warmer weather we are delighted to be able to put the school table tennis table back into action. The Year 5 Young Leaders have assumed responsibility for setting up the table each day under the canopy area at the end of the KS1 corridor and helping to organise the games.

Jumping for joy!

Wednesday 10th February saw the children in Key Stage 1 taking part in a charity skipping event. The event was organised in order to promote skipping, increase playground activity and raise money for British Heart Foundation.

Over 60 children took part in the challenge at lunchtime, which was run with the help of motive8 and the year 5 young leaders. Nearly £200 was collected for the British Heart Foundation, who provided the school with a fantastic resource pack including coaching resources and equipment.

Shawn Mullix comments: For our event we followed the structure of “Jump Rope for Heart”, which is the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) popular sponsored skipping challenge, which raises money for the nation’s heart charity. Skipping is an excellent form of cardio-vascular activity and it also promotes bone health, co-ordination, rhythm and timing. By getting more children involved in Jump Rope For Heart and the new skipping club at St. Mary’s & St. Peter’s Primary School in Teddington last term, we hope to increase awareness of health related issues, and show children (and adults!) how much fun skipping is!”

John Logan, Head Teacher at St. Mary’s & St. Peter’s School, comments:” motive8 has recently introduced skipping as a new after school activity. It has been very well received by all our children, who think it is great fun! The British Heart Foundation (BHF) ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ fund raising event in February was fantastic, the playground was full of activity. Skipping is a fun way to get children more active in the playground and helps develop important co-ordination and balance skills.”

Girls Football

The Girls football team have had a great start to the season.

Our first game was against St John the Baptist. At half time we were 2-1 up. In the second half we struck 2 more goals into the back of the net (Alice and Maddy scored). The final score was 4-2 to us.

Our second game was against Collis School. Our first half goal was an amazing headed effort and then we got a second to make it 2-0 . In the second half we scored 2 more goals and we won the game 4-0.

Our final game, was against St James. They were our hardest side yet. In the first half Maddy and Dee scored 2 great goals. Emily LB dribbled the ball from the defence, through midfield and all the way into the back of the net. Lily made some great saves and kept the goals out.

The final match secured our place at the top of the schools league. Our three wins gave us a hatrick and a great sporting end to the autum term. Our next game is against Stanley and they will be a challenge!

Friday 27th November- Borough Cross Country

Wet, muddy and cold. Soooo cccccold. Well that is how cross country should be and so it was. Thanks to all the runners and parents who braved the artic conditons in Richmond Park for this years cross country run. We are still awaiting the results and will update them as soon as they arrive.

Friday 13th November -Tag Rugby Tournement

On what can only be described as a miserable day weather wise the SMSP mixed tag rugby team braved the elements to put in a commendable display in the Borough Tag Festival at the NPL.

The first round of the Festival is organised as a Mini league. For a team that was playing together for the first time they performed brilliantly and only lost 1 match.  This meant qualification for the afternoons cup competition.

The only downside to the mornings performance was the injury to Chloe B's knee. Chloe was unable to continue to play and the team was left without any female substitutes meaning the remaining girls had to play every match.

The afternoons results were mixed as fatigue began to play its part. The team was knocked out at the quarter final stage. Overall it was a good showing for a school of our size and the players can all be very proud.

Thursday 12th November- SMSP vs St John Baptist

Thursday evening saw the boys football team in action again against St John the Baptist. It has been a busy week for the boys and perhaps fatigue played its part as the lads failed to reach the footballing heights of Tuesdays encounter with Stanley. Overall it was a scrappy affair not helped by the conditions and both sides struggled to maintain control of the ball or produce any moves of real quality.  SMSP enjoyed the lions share of possession and chances but were unable to produce the finish. Despite excellent defensive work by a combination of Toby D, Tom T and Declan K, St Johns were able to take the lead with a rare chance that produced a deft finish and left stand in goalkeeper William R with no chance.  Christian W and Alex C both went close later in the half and St John's were forced to concede corner after corner as they struggled to contain the red and white tide.
After half time St Johns continued to be restricted to the occasional half chance as they were forced to set up camp on the edge of their own box. The introduction of Milo 'Wizard of the dribble' S and Robert W helped to maintain the pressure on St John's and it was through a typically surging Milo run that the equalizer finally came. Exactly who applied the finishing touch is hotly disputed but suffice to say it will be a goal shared amongst the team as a just reward for all their hard work. Spurred on by finally finding the net SMSP continued to press the opposition but to no avail as it finished 1-1. Man of the Match Toby D.

Thursday 3rd December- Collis vs SMSP

Result A team 4-2

B team 4-1

In what proved to be a disappointing end to our league campaign for this year both teams were beaten by Collis. In the A team match the boys started off in fantastic fashion and scored two early goals through skipper George PT. Despite continuing to dominate for the rest of the half and restricting Collis to one strike on target it ended 2-1. The second half was a more even contest but SMSP still remained the better side and created more chances although they failed to convert any of them. Collis on the other hand were not so profligate with their chances and scored 3 times to snatch victory. Man of the match award for George PT.

The B-team were up against a well organized Collis side and had to defend for large periods of the match. George O snatched a consolation goal in the second half after being switched from defense to attack by caretaker manager Mr Taylor.

Tuesday 10th November- Stanley vs SMSP

The boys A team played away at Stanley School. It was a hotly contested game between two sides who were evenly matched. Early in the first half Stanley took control and SMSP goalkeeper Matthew H, who had an outstanding match, was forced to produce a series of fine saves. As the half progressed SMSP warmed to their task and began to take control of the match. Alex C was in commanding form working together with George PT in the centre of the pitch. Both linked well with debutant striker Christian W, the ever lively Will R and Amir S to force the Stanley keeper into an equally good set of saves. The second half began as the first had ended with SMSP creating several good chances and controling the ebb and flow of the match. With the admirable and dogged defence of Toby D and Tom T being bolstered by the introduction of second debutant Samuel L SMSP looked to press home their advantage. Despite our best efforts, most notably a low rasping strike from George PT which produced a fine fingertip save, SMSP were unable to break the deadlock. With the light fading Stanley sensed that having weathered the SMSP storm they could steal the victory. The SMSP bar was rocked by a late strike and Matt H bravely saved in the dying seconds to keep Stanley out. Even after this there was just time for one last chance for Amir S to steal the points and he was only denied by a last ditch tackle from Stanley's final defender. The game ended with honours even although the 0-0 scoreline does not reflect just how entertaining a match it was. The Man of the Match award is shared between- Alex C and Matthew H. Well played boys.
